Shopping online for furniture and decor with a specific aesthetic is easy thanks to visual search tools like Pinterest and Google Image Search. Let’s dive into how to use Google Image Search to find the aesthetic you want at the quality and price point that matches your needs.
Selecting inspiration photos for furniture and decor
The best place to start shopping is with a picture of a room or outdoor space that you like. There are a few ways to grab a picture:
-
Phone or tablet – You can take your own picture of a place you visit in real life or simply screenshot a magazine or book. Depending on how you have your device configured, you should be able to email the picture to yourself or use a cord to transfer the picture to your computer.
-
Mac computer – Hold down Command – Shift – Four and use your cursor to select the picture you want to use for your search.
-
Windows computer – There are a couple screenshot tools that come with Windows computers. If you open your Start menu and search for the word “snip” you should see a screenshot tool such as Snipping Tool.
Using your inspiration photo to create a Google Image Search
Now that you have a screenshot ready, you can use it to start a search. If you go to Google and look at the right side of the search box, you’ll see a little camera icon. When you hover on the camera icon you should see a tool tip that says Search by image.

Click on the tool tip. Now, you can drag and drop your inspiration photo into the search box.

You should get results for similar styles of furniture and decor at a range of quality levels and price points, making it easy to follow your budget.

I bought this patio set for $300 after a little comparison shopping on Google. I knew that a patio set wasn’t something I wanted to spend a lot of money on since I’ll replace this patio set with something higher quality at another home in the future. Without using a tool like Google Image Search, I might have spent as much as $2500 on a similar aesthetic for furniture that would be donated to Goodwill within a few years.
