Puppy decor: space for a new puppy

Setting up an inviting sleep-and play space for a new puppy is easy if you think from the puppy’s point of view. Dogs need furnishings and toys that are washable and replaceable. If you have a young puppy that hasn’t finished teething, they also need to be able to chew on everything without hurting a tooth.

Choosing a puppy bed

There are a lot of options for dog beds today that are stylish, fun, and practical. You’ll want a mattress that is either waterproof or comes with replaceable, waterproof mattress covers. For the bed’s cover you can pick out something that meshes with your decor and that a puppy will enjoy. As long as it’s washable and replaceable, you’ll feel stress-free about all the wear and tear that comes with a rambunctious doggie friend.

When it comes to choosing fabric, remember that the bed cover is for a dog and not a child. Natural patterns and geometric shapes are soothing for a dog. The bed in the picture also has a handle so that it can be moved around during the day or taken on the road. My puppy likes to use the handle to move the bed herself.

As for where to put the bed? You might find your dog has their own opinion on that. When my puppy moved in I started with her bed in the center of the living area and she quickly chose a sleeping spot that she likes for nighttime.

What makes a good puppy toy

Fibers are the most important part of a toy for a teething puppy. Tough, natural fibers like wool and cotton are not only fun to chew on, but they also help keep your dog’s teeth clean. If you buy something with synthetic fibers, fleece is your best choice. Toys should have fibers that a dog can chew on without shredding.

You’ll want to make sure that you choose toys that are the right size for your dog. They should be small enough that they can pick the toys up, while all the parts should be big enough that they can’t swallow anything.

My puppy loves having her own space with a bed and toys that are always ready for her.
